This summer, I had the pleasure of photographing a sweet, sentimental wedding in Muskoka. It was a dark and somewhat stormy day, but that didn’t seem to get anyone down. Through the grey and the gloom, were two people madly in love grinning from ear to ear surrounded by their closest family and friends. Guests travelled from the Ukraine where the brides family is from and there was diverse mix of culture.
The pitter patter of raindrops only heightened the intimacy and coziness of the occasion. Each moment was genuine and heartwarming. A couple that stood out to me in particular included the bride, Diana walking down the aisle, stopping for a brief second and looking up to the sky saying, “thank you.” Another was when the bride’s father gave her away to her new husband, Tim, and quietly whispered, “do I have to?”
The decor was perfection which was to be expected. Diana is a painter with a keen eye for detail and beauty. Everything from the handmade paper cranes (a nod to Tim’s Japanese heritage) to the delicate white flowers used for bouquets and boutonnieres (assembled by Diana) was an authentic representation of the couple’s unique personality and style.
This charming couple who’s meet cute took place in a trendy bar in downtown Toronto, where they were introduced by Tim’s best man, were some of the kindest and down to earth people I’ve ever met and I loved every moment of capturing their beautiful love story. When Diana reached out to me via Instagram, because of our mutual love for Scandinavian inspired design and minimalistic stye, I knew we were a good fit. As an environmentalist, Diana is passionate about nature and taking care of the planet. Just another one of the many reasons why we connected so well. Tim and Diana spend a lot of time out in nature. This is primarily why the couple chose Deerhurst Resort. They both enjoy camping, hiking and wanted to show their family traveling from out of town, the natural beauty of Muskoka, Canada. The wedding was a great way to bring everyone together for a Canadian weekend of fun, outdoor activity.
Tim and Diana are an adventurous couple who appreciate the little things and enjoy living life to the fullest. My favourite part about capturing a wedding, is telling a couples unique story. This came through in their emotional and laughter filled photos, which depicts their love in its purest form.
